Activities include crafts, games, a live river critters exhibit, and a nature hike. The Huron-Clinton Metroparks Mobile Learning Center will feature the river’s natural history and other exhibitors will share information about enjoying and protecting the river. There will be free kayak trips (single and two-person) on the Huron as it winds through Ypsilanti and into Ford Lake, all equipment and transportation provided. The trips are good for beginners and experienced paddlers alike. Limited availability, walk up registration only.
About the Paddle Trips: A limited number of free single and double kayaks will be available from Noon to 3pm at Frog Island Park. Walk-up registration only, first come first served. All equipment and transportation provided.
Launch from Frog Island Park and paddle to Huron Landing Park on Spring Street—about a 45-minute river trip. You can also extend the trip by heading into Ford Lake and paddling around the upper lake area. All paddlers must be at Huron Landing Park no later than 4pm for the shuttle back to Frog Island Park. The launch/landing areas are sloped riverbanks. At Frog Island Park, there are stairs down to the river.
