Procession Start Time: 9:00 am

Stepping off at 9 AM on Monday May 29th and following it's customary route despite the ongoing street reconstruction, Ypsilanti's procession will walk from City Hall north on North Huron Street to Cross Street. There, will pause on the bridge to honor those warriors for freedom who were lost at sea by dropping flowers in the Huron River. The group will then proceed to River Street, walking north to Highland Cemetery for a short ceremony.

Requested Closure for Memorial Day Procession:

Huron Street (M-17) will be closed Monday, May 29, 2023 starting at 8:00 am through approximately 10:30 am. Closure of Huron Street will be between Catherine Street and W. Cross Street.

Detour Route for M-17 (Huron Street):

Traffic traveling on Huron Street will be detoured eastbound on E. Spring Street to northbound Grove Street. Commuters with intentions of traveling westbound will be detoured onto Harriet Street to northbound First Avenue ending on Michigan Avenue. Detour continues westbound on Michigan Avenue to Hewitt back to Washtenaw Avenue.

Detour Route for US-12 (Michigan Avenue):

Though Michigan Avenue will remain open until the procession crosses at Huron Street, police officers will be detouring traffic around the temporary closure. Traffic traveling eastbound will be detoured southbound on Hamilton to Harriet Street/E. Spring Street to northbound Grove Street. Traffic traveling westbound will be detoured southbound at Grove Street to E. Spring Street/Harriet Street to northbound First Avenue.

 

Children from the city and township of Ypsilanti are invited to bring their parents to Highland Cemetery on Saturday May 27th between 9 and noon to help place flags on the graves of our brave service members. Flags will be provided compliments of the City of Ypsilanti.
