The John E. Lawrence Summer Jazz Concert Series (formerly the Frog Island Jazz Concert Series) is moving to a new location in Ypsilanti Township at Ford Lake Park for 2022.

Alvin Waddles

Alvin Waddles Pianist, singer, composer, director. He has served as musical director for several music ministries of several churches. Among them the historic new Bethel Baptist Church, Hartford Memorial Baptist Church and Hope United Methodist Church in Southfield Michigan where he is service music director since 1995.

He has been the musical director for and pianist for numerous theatrical productions including: The Wiz, Dream Girls, The Color Purple, Chorus Line, West Side Story and Sophisticated Ladies. He Served as Musical Director for the Three Mo Tenors for over 10 Years. Mr. Waddles is the featured pianist for the often sold out production of “Too Hot to Handle” in both Detroit and Chicago. Mr. Waddles’ engagements Include as a solo pianists and featured artists have taken him to a variety of destinations Including Barbados, Beijing Paris, Barcelona and Ghana West Africa.

He has been blessed to work with some of the world’s finest musicians including Robert Shaw, Margaret Heels, Brazil Dennard, Minister Thomas Whitfield, Aretha Franklin, Anita Baker, Marcus Belgrave, Stephanie Mills, and Tramaine Hawkins.
