Our guest contributor Emily Tuesday, Executive Director of the Riverside Arts Center, gives us a first look at what's new at this year's DIYpsi Holiday Market.
One of my first exposures to the arts scene in Ypsilanti was an Indie Art Fair called DIYpsi (pronounced DIP-see). I found it to be vibrant, creative, and exciting, just like Ypsilanti itself. For the last two years, the DIYpsi Holiday Market has been hosted at Riverside Arts Center. This event makes our space come alive, with over 5,000 visitors in just two days! This year promises to be even more vibrant, with the organizers applying their exciting creativity to the event itself.
Here’s a sneak peek of what will be new at the DIYpsi Holiday Market this year.
For the first time ever, the DIYpsi Holiday Market will include a Make’n’Take room. Attendees can make their own holiday creations with art projects provided by community organizations, such as Growing Hope. The family-friendly Make’n’Take room will be in Studio 1, on the second floor.
Next, get ready to experience Riverside Arts Center’s theater as you’ve never imagined it--as a professional, quirky film house! The Film House will screen a 2-hour film produced by Garrett Sammons and Nice Shirt Media. The film will loop continuously to provide a relaxing and non-linear visual experience at any time during the fair.
Finally, the heart of DIYpsi is the vendors. This year will include a record-breaking 90 exhibitors displaying everything from jewelry to cutting boards to homemade peanut brittle. If you are interested in buying local, you owe it to yourself to get some of your holiday decorations and gifts from the myriad of do-it-yourself artisans of DIYpsi. What better way to show your family and friends that you love them, and Ypsilanti!
